About an hour outside of New Orleans, Ashley got a notification on her Facebook post that she had tagged me in by a girl who claimed she found my license in the street. She agreed to mail it to me and this just goes to show there are still good Samaritans out there.

I-10 through southern Louisiana is all swamp and it is devastatingly beautiful.

Around lunch we pulled over at a basic exit with the intention of getting innocuous fast food. Until we saw this gem.

I ordered crayfish, what we in North Carolina refer to as "crawdads", at least in my neck of the woods. They had a little shop as well that was packed with spices and local specialities. The lady pictured above had a beautiful, musical southern accent that I had never heard before. Ashley ordered a burger with everything on it but asked what "everything on it" meant in Louisiana. Because in North Carolina it comes with slaw and chili and looks like this..

These are really tasty and if you're ever in the piedmont section of North Carolina I highly recommend trying one.

Anyway apparently in Louisiana burgers come fully prepared the way most burgers in the US do, with lettuce, tomato, onion, ketchup, mayo and mustard. My crayfish looked like this the following.

With a side of cajun rice. It was a lot of carbs and fried fish but it was pretty damn good. I think eating this way is essential on a road trip. After we finished our meal we carried on driving through swamp lands eventually arriving at the Texas state line where we saw an alligator.
